Yoga Class Sliding Scale Guidance

Scholarship and Sliding Scale Guidance from Yoga Wellspring, LLC

As an organization that centers social justice, Yoga Wellspring offers yoga classes, workshops, and experiences to the public on a free and sliding scale basis. We know it takes all of us to make an impact through yoga and not all of us have equal access. Yoga Wellspring is a small, woman-owned business and it is our intention to bring dignity, love, and humanity into this experience. We acknowledge that this is only a step in the movement towards creating equity and not a complete solution. This guidance for consideration is adapted from Susanna Barkataki and the Embody Yoga’s Roots Team by Bonnie Walker, Yoga Wellspring Owner & CXO.

In the spirit of yoga, if an event or class is offered free of charge (whether in person or virtually), everyone is welcome to access and enjoy!

For fee-based yoga classes, workshops and events, Yoga Wellspring offers the following guidelines to help you place yourself on the suggested sliding scale for the session. Our sliding scale starts at $0 and goes up to the posted price for each type of class, session, or event.

If you would like free or reduced cost services, the most important qualification is sincere desire to deepen with yoga and that you would not be able to do so without financial assistance, especially if you:

  • Identify as Black, Indigenous, or both
  • Support children as a single parent or have other dependents
  • Experience discrimination based on melanin, caste, class, or LGBTQ+ identity
  • Are experiencing financial hardship and have instability in home or food
  • Are a returning citizen who has been denied work due to incarceration history
  • Are living with a disability (including service-related disabled veterans)
  • Are active duty military or first responder (law enforcement officers, paramedics, EMT’s, Emergency Room medical staff, firefighters, as well as nurses, doctors and other medical personnel who are required to respond directly to disasters and critical situations)
  • For virtual classes: Are a resident of a low income region or developing country / the Global South (“developing country” refers to a country on the OECD DAC-list from the categories “Least Developed Countries”, “Low Income Countries” of “Low Middle Income Countries.”)

Please consider paying full price, or more to support scholarships and make space for people in the above categories, if any of the following are true for you:

  • Own the home you live in
  • Own luxury vehicles including cars, RVs, boats/yachts
  • Benefit from racial, gender, colorism, caste / class privilege
  • Have investments, retirement accounts, or inherited money
  • Travel for recreation
  • Have access to family money and resources in times of need
  • Work part time or are unemployed by choice, including unemployment due to full-time school in a degree-earning program
  • Have a relatively high degree of earning power. Even if you are not currently exercising your earning power, we ask you to recognize this as a choice
